These are old, but others may find interest. I didn't want the trans mounted completely solidly. I think the frame horns twist and flex to some extent, and to prevent excessive case flex and other bad stuff, I wanted the front nosecone isolated. Since there isn't any way to retain the stock '73 mounting configurtion, I opted to build my own rather than have to swap to the two-bolt nosecone and buy an earlier front mount plate. Savage confirmed this would be legal as well, so long as I utilize the nosecone mounting holes.

I have to admit, it's a bit frustrating looking at a ton of pictures of 11's with bolted mid-mounts and such, and being told it's not legal. Oh well, no mid mounts for me. If I have any issues, I'll add straps later on.

MEAD Racing has the right idea. We know there will be at least 3 or 4 spots that could be VERY difficult for a Class 11 and it would be nice to have a 4x4 angel on our shoulder.

To everyone reading this: Do you know truck guys that would want to be a hero? Please contact me! We need help and we'll take good care of them and they'll have an incredible adventure in Baja.

I have to agree with Dave on this one. My lights mounted (near the windshield) on top give bad reflection off the hood and cause major distraction. The last night race I turned them off and utilized the lower lights and that worked better. Getting ready to start prepping my car Dave. See you in La Paz.

There is no bumping allowed in class 11, I think most Class 11 cars weld a bar from stock bumper mount to stock bumper mount, Bend bar to stay inside the stock bumper, run skid plat up and bolt it through the stock bumber and bar bumper with tabs or wholes throught the bar, run light tabs off the bar bumper,
The stock mounts are used per regulations, and it keeps the class 11 looking stock as it should, nothing looks better than a flyin stock vw bug, Look at Dave C picture - its a classic!

Someone here can help you on the prerun times for the prime and baja.
Here is some other Prerun Ideas.

M.E.A.D. Racing Preurun rules for Class 11 & Class 9. -

1. I get out there the first day to prerun to give myself for any repairs needed.
I drive the race car at meduum safe speed for 30 miles to shake out any bugs.
Then I park it for the race. Usually anything that is going to break after a prep job will break within the 30 miles

2. Then I prerun in a prerun car that is actually faster than the class 11.

3. I prerun a baja bug that almost meets the spec of a 5/1600 car,
I drive the hell out of the prerun car, plus its fun. we also use the Prerun car for a chase car, I try to break the prerun car so that it does not pass me during a race. Its sad but it happens, being passed by your own chase prerun car is no fun! But they can get ahead of you with parts. lol

4. Always stay in the coarse boundries, Since i use to desert race motorcycles I take my honda 500 out to look for smoother passage ways through the course, its amazing how blind you are in a car or chasis car vs a motorcycle in finding flatter paths through the desert. On Motorcycles you can stand up and see and climb a hill to look around. Its amazing that on some race courses a fully woppy due road with 36" whoops that shuts down a class 11 or class 9 car runs paraell to a road or path that has long rolling whoops or is completely flat, you may eat bushes but you are traveling 20 to 40 miles per hour faster.

I hope this helps,

Geeez.... I've been so sidetracked I just haven't gotten to getting back here. This thread turned fun for a while there. ;)
Just an FYI....Our Class 11 shocks are not listed on the website because we haven't reached the point where we are ready to sell them to everyone. We still need more feedback from the guys that run them now, as we want to have everything as good as possible from the start. So for now..they are literally a one-off shock for us. The only place to find any info on them is this website right here. I've kept it to the Class 11 Coalition guys until we feel like we can start putting them on the shelves.

Jim,

Thanks for the help. I've remove liegreven but assume there are many more in need of removal. I'll perform an upgrade later this week and determine whether we need to migrate to a different forum script for easier admin duties.

Thanks.

Glad to know that it will be put to good use. Sorry I wasn't able to be there when you picked it up. I was doing field work in the morning for my son's AYSO division. On Saturday afternoon, we had our kick-off work party to prep the Class 11 for the Baja 1000. We shoudl only need about 1000 more work parties and we'll be ready. Yeeeeee!!!
