Class 11 LOORS Race Report, World Series of Bugs, Event 3:

With the help of Dan TwoHundy and Tim Jones from Lucas Oil Regionals in Phoenix, Class 11 bugs made a unique return to the short course venue. Of the 10 or so active racers left in the MAXTRAX World Series of Bugs $10,000 winner take all challenge only one had much short course experience, King Dave Hendrickson with son Jeremy taking the wheel this season. Cisco Bio was in hot pursuit to close the gap in points and the stage was set for a showdown at the Lucas Oil Regionals in Phoenix, Arizona. Truly one of the most entertaining races I’ve had the pleasure of attending in a while.

“Hot” was a key word. Temps soared to well over 100 degrees during day one while everyone had a few practice laps and a qualifier for Friday nights main. Cisco Bio walked away with the fast lap points with a 53 second lap reaching just over 60 MPH before the weekend was over. The jumps were perfect and the Bugs got a chance to air it out for the crowd. Two photo finish nights made for stand up in your seat and cheer racing as Bio and Hendrickson came in 1 / 2 both nights. Due to Lucas rules that weight Saturday nights main heavier Bio took home the first place podium points for the weekend. Meek, Diaz, Thomas, and Andy Mac also made strong showings. Carnage was kept to a minimum but there was a bit of rubbing, just wouldn’t be right without it!

The race saw two new entrants and one new car. Andy Mac with their 11 car and Greg Periano with his Pepe Azul car and the debut of the Three Amigos / Team MAXTRAX Class 11 that will be making a run at the 1000 in a few weeks. Several teams had mechanical issues but all agreed that it was a great weekend and a rare chance at some short course fun. It was also Military Appreciation Night (9/11) and all military and government workers were allowed free entry. A few active duty military folks even came out from Ft. Bragg and were assigned as co-drivers / navigators in several 11 cars as our way of saying thank you from the Class.

Standings after the third event are as follows:

DaveCo / Team Hendrickson Jeremy Hendrickson 70 pts
Peoples Racing Cisco Bio 64 pts
3 Amigos Racing Ron Thomas 41 pts
Meek Racing David Meek 40 pts
Fire Guys Racing Mark Murrell 36 pts
Diaz Racing Mauro Diaz 32 pts
11 Brothers Dennis Sletton 27 pts
Boyer Racing Rick Boyer 27 pts
Vandemark Racing Cory Vandemark 24 pts
Team MAXTRAX KC and Melissa Steiner 16 pts
Cote Racing Michael Cote 8 pts
Gill Racing Dustin Gill 6 pts
Andy Mac Racing Andy McClanahan 6 pts
Pepe Azul Greg Periano 3 pts

Side note here: There is a 20 point bonus for completing every lap of every race (EXTREMELY DIFFICULT) and there is only one team still left in the running for that bonus, Team DaveCO / Hendrickson. All they have to do is make it to the finish line in a mid pack finish at the championship race and a season win will be all but guaranteed. Although I’m sure Bio has other plans for that!

The season championship for the MAXTRAX World Series of Bugs will be the CODE 250 from Mexicali to San Felipe Dec. 5. A large turnout of Mexican racers is expected and the points are worth 1.5 X for the series so it is going to be a shootout. CODE is hosting an awards ceremony on the beach and prizes will be awarded to the participants and winners so come one and all and enjoy the Class 11 fun!
