Thanks for all help so far.

I've got everything to start assembling my motor....at least i think i do

I'm considering having everything shot peened. I'm using all new parts so i decided that magna fluxing shouldn't be necessary. will the added strength make any difference with a motor making so little power? maybe just for peace of mind?

is an goal/estimate of 90-95hp realistic? i know it all depends on my combination but I'd like to know what the range is for competitive cars.

Also can anyone clarify ignition rules? can i use aftermarket coil& distributor...

Thanks in advance
Lewis

P.s. does anyone know of an IRS bug for sale? I'm in Pomona, CA. and don't mind driving a little to get the right car. budget of $300-400.

I personally wouldn't shot peen anything. I don't think its necessary, save your money. 60 to 80 hp is more realistic. 95 hp out of an 11 motor isn't gonna happen. I use a compu fire ignition setup which works well and is very reliable. As far as IRS bugs go, check craigslist, thesamba or Pomona swap meet is this Sunday. I've found deals on all of them.

Home built motor is more around 70-80. The top engine builders are pushing the numbers you're thinking of and those motors won't work too well in a class 11 since your gearing won't allow you to keep it on the cam enough of the time.

What camshaft are you going to put in there? Flywheel? Etc?

I'm unsure of the Cam, i got a few (no brand) to dyno and see which made the most power. The flywheel is a lightened chromoly, I don't remember the brand.

You will want a camshaft that produces some torque, these cars aren't drag racers. It depends on your driving style a lot too.

Look at web cam inc's website. The elf motor was from FAT and it has a torquey class 9 cam in it with 11:1. That's a pretty nice combo for a class 11. An engle 110 or a VZ25 aren't bad either but aren't particularily designed for the restriced intake of a 30 pic carb. Any of those choices will produce a very usable power band. But none of them are going to top 85 engine dyno hp.
